Take a tram and alight at the GPO, walk around to Little Burke Street and you will find this charming little cafe. A space that is just about right for 10-15 seatings, on the big commute table or along the wall on the high stools. I was already attracted to the cafe when I saw a review on espressomelbourne.com. On the ceiling of the interior, it has hundreds of chairs above your head! This have since been “the place” that I want to visit! Plus its the perfect location if you are in the city and need a quick coffee fix!

I ordered a long black and the flavor of the seven seed blend is perfect for a long black. A cup that is a well rounder, smooth, bold, right extraction, right temperature. It simply made my day and made my trip to Melbourne worth it. And this may just be the beginning of my amazing coffee journey in Melbourne.

Located along craig road, near tanjong pagar, this cafe is just 6weeks old! From the first time I stepped into the cafe, I fell in love the sunroof in the middle of the cafe. The communal table set up right under it, allowing daylight running through those windows, it’s the perfect corner for me.

Here are some of my favorite dishes from the cafe, sweet corn soup, roasted tomato soup, vegetarian bruschetta, frozen cheese cake and croissant and butter pudding.

My absolute favorite dish is the Panna Cotta, the light fluffy vanilla flavor is perfect with the berry coulis, I have to have it on every visit!

I have to admit that I am a person that would never (but never say never!) order a chai tea latte, as I do not like the minty flavor (referring to the chai tea lattes I have had in Starbucks), but the flavor of the chai spices worked amazingly well with the milk here! I am a fan now. Another drink which is my favorite from the cafe is their green tea latte, and it comes with a special black sesame green tea cookie!

p.s.: Some of you would probably know that I worked in selfish gene cafe as a coffee barista, this is my entry as a customer, not a staff. ;)

p.p.s.: If you do visit selfish gene cafe, do look out for the chalk board wall next to the sunroof, I dressed it up with some of my drawings. :D

the orange thimble is the first cafe I visited this year, it have been open for awhile now, seen many singapore instagrammers (SGIGers) visited the place, but the photos did not do justice (neither are mine :P) to the space they have. There are pockets of spaces with tables, seats and sofa around the cafe, creating cosy atmosphere for you and your friends (indoor and outdoors).

Being known as an arts cafe, currently the works of Colin Chow’s perspective on Tiong Bahru Estate is on exhibition. I did not know about it until I read up on the website when I got home, its a shame that I did not take a closer look at the photographs, I thought that they were part of the orange thimble’s perspective on the neighborhood which would always be on display in the cafe.

I have a glass of latte, its much bigger then what you get around the block, its about a 250-280ml (by guess and memory). However, I do find it too milky for my liking, am not able to taste much of the flavor of the beans.

However, the place is good for a lazy day out, cafe-hopping session with a few friends, as there are a handful of cafes in the neighborhood.
